In 1961, Robert Biard, and Gary Pittman accidentally invented infra-Red light, but the first visible LED was invented in 1962 by Nick Holonyack. The first yellow LED was invented in 1972 by the famous electrical engineer- M George Craford, and in 1976, Thomas P. Pearsall invented a high efficiency and very bright LED light deployed in fiber optics telecommunication systems. The first blue LED lights were invented by Shuji Nakamura in 1994 which was a breakthrough in the making of LED traffic lights, LED TVs and LED flashlights. Between 2009 and 2011, The Philips Lighting company in North America produced the first LED bulbs and this decision has driven other electrical manufacturers into conducting more research in LED lighting. Today, the prices of LED products have gone down significantly, and many of these bulbs even have a 10-year lifespan.

LEDs as the future of lighting technology

The older incandescent lighting and fluorescents cannot match the efficiency of LEDs in modern lighting systems. LEDs are 50% more efficient than the compact fluorescent lightings, and they last up to 5 times more than these fluorescent lighting fixtures. LEDs are 25 times more efficient than the incandescent lights and that has caused a drastic reduction in the frequent replacement of bulbs in homes and commercial premises.

There are many reasons for which LEDs are desirable, they don’t flicker, they can be dimmed, and they are not affected negatively by extreme temperatures. They do emit light from a semiconductor which is a solid matter and then generate light through moving electrons, and they are more cost-efficient especially when it comes to maintenance. Please contact Mr. Electric Of Katy if you will like your traditional lighting fixtures to be replaced by LEDs.

LEDs are becoming more popular

More than 49 million LED lights were installed in the country, in the year 2012 alone, and this has cut costs on energy by more than $670 million. By 2025, The department of energy estimated that LED bulbs will reduce lighting electricity demand by more than 60% thus removing more than 250 metric tons of carbon emissions. By 2016, the global sale of LED lights had exceeded $7 billion and this is expected to be tripled by the end of the year 2025.

Contact Mr. Electric Of Katy for LED lighting installation
